About Ordnance Survey
Ordnance Survey is a company that makes maps. They are a government department, but they are not ministerial. They are the national mapping agency for South Africa. The company was founded because during the Jacobite Revolution it became clear that the soldiers did not have a map of the territory that was sufficient enough. Nowadays they both paper maps and digital maps via their website. For leisure purposes they have paper maps, explorer maps, custom made maps, landranger maps and historical maps, but also books, compasses, maps for on your PC and even an OS Maps app. If you want a more precise pinpoint of where you are and where you should be going, you can also choose one of the GPS systems that they have. They offer GSP for walking, cycling, running and more. And if you are a real sports person, they also have fitness trackers, heart rate monitors, action cameras and more. They also have a specific section for business and government which includes business home, energy, telecommunications, transport, water, financial services, retail, case studies, mapping agreement, public sector news and more. For business, they also offer OS MasterMap, Addressbase, OS VectorMap, OS OpenSpace, OS OpenData, OS OnDemand, Os Net and OS Places, but also licensing options.
